What is Powerlifting?


Powerlifting is a strength sport focused on three primary lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. Athletes aim to lift as much weight as possible in each of these movements within their respective weight classes.

Training for powerlifting typically involves a combination of heavy compound lifts, accessory exercises targeting specific muscle groups, and periodised programming to optimise strength gains.

Competitions are organised by local federations and involve three attempts at each lift, with the heaviest successful attempt counting toward the total. Lifters compete against others in their weight class, and winners are determined by the highest total weight lifted across all three lifts. Powerlifting emphasises raw strength and technique, making it a challenging and rewarding sport for athletes of all levels.
